According to reports, the incident occurred at 07:22 local time in the morning at a construction site in Auckland Central Business District, New Zealand. The incident resulted in 2 fatalities, including a police officer, and 6 others injured, with the gunman also confirmed to be dead.

New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins has stated that the attack is not being considered a terrorist act, and the Women's World Cup will proceed as scheduled. The authorities have eliminated the threat and there are no further risks, though the motive behind the attack is yet to be determined by the police.

At the same time, Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown has confirmed the safety of all FIFA personnel and participating teams. The 2023 Women's World Cup will take place from July 20th to August 20th in Australia and New Zealand.
